How to Choose the Right Shade For Your Lips

2017 it is and already there are 30,000 shades of red that even 5o shades of grey would be jealous. I beg to differ when my mom says you have to have a red and a basic nude lipstick and you’re done. Lol! Did she say a basic nude? And did she just say a red lipstick? What red? Cherry red?  Mahogany? Brick? Candy? Blush? Blood? Currant? What red? So, my heart goes out to every lipstick lover who struggles in the morning when she’s wearing something between baby pink and magenta and she doesn’t how to rock her lips with something that goes with that “in between” baby and magenta pink dress that she’s wearing. For every complexion, there’s a shade while it’s needless to say we should rock the look we love because self-love is important than any other love in the world. Bloggers would say neon is in but does it really go with your complexion? Or would you compromise because it’s in? Hell, no. Always make it a point to test the shade against your skin and then go for it. Here are a few tips that will help every lady rock star find the right shade she’ll rule the world with.

Right Shade For Your Lips

Step 1:

Examine your lip shape

You might have thin lips or bold Kylie Jenner kind (without lip fillers). You might want to accentuate your thin lips or just highlight if you have fuller ones. This is where you need to referee if the ball has to fall in the court of shades of nudes or the darker ones.

Step 2:

Examine your skin type

Here’s a tip, look at the veins of your wrist if they are blue then you’re blessed with cool undertones and if the veins look greenish then you’re blessed with warm undertones and if any way you cannot determine between the two you’re blessed with combination undertones and that’s even better because then you can go for nudes and neons and every colour you amor because my fair lady you’re super blessed and every shade is for you.

Step 3:

Choosing the shade that goes with your color

Now that you’ve inspected the lip shape and undertones, you are a step closer to achieving the ideal shade. When you’re choosing a lipstick, you are choosing it for your lunch dates, dinner dates, official meetings, family functions, outdoor and indoor parties and what not. So choose a shade you can always count on. The one shade that is your favorite no matter what you’re wearing that shade should accentuate your pout and should compliment your skin color.

Step 4:

Skin color

Fair skin

Fair skinned girls should go for nudes, pinks and light browns. There will be times when you’d want to rock dark red lips, go ahead, do that, but beiges and nudes would never let you down.

Medium skin

For medium skinned people choosing the perfect shade isn’t a hard task as fair and dusky skinned girls. All shades of browns and reds, fuschias and pinks are for medium skinned girls. Dash ahead, experiment!

Dusky skin

Dusky complexion ones are the most blessed ones because they can rock all sorts of maroons and reds and the darkest of shades unapologetically while for some dusky complexion girls nude and lighter shades work well. Orange should be a big no! no! though.

So, these are some of the tips on how to choose the right shades for your lips. These tips were to help to choose from the never-ending varieties of lipsticks and lessen every lipstick lover’s burden. Remember, you can always experiment without being sorry and you’re free to choose whatever shade you think works well for you. Don’t clout yourself to follow the trend blindly. Embrace self-love.
